Bob Hope Primary School (BHPS) is located on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. A unique characteristic of the school is that it is the only primary school (K-3) located on Okinawa. The student population consists of dependents of military personnel and civilians working for the Department of Defense.
The school is a modern, two-story, centrally air-conditioned structure. It is divided into "pods" or small common areas servicing three to four classrooms each. There is also a cafeteria, gymnasium, and a 10,000+ volume media center. There is a large playground and a nature trail that winds through a wooded area behind the school.
There are approximately 720 students at BHPS. We have approximately 80 teachers. It is a DYNAMIC SCHOOL, where teachers are dedicated and work hard to help children achieve their highest academic goals and potential. We receive a commendable level of performance and behavior from all our students because they strive to meet our high expectations. Our school follows the normal "stateside" curriculum with special classes including Art, Music, Physical Education and Japanese culture.
We have outstanding Special Education, Read 180, Literacy Support Services, and English as a Second Language programs. If you are in need of special education, an individual plan for the child's education will be prescribed with input from the parents. We also have a Gifted Education program. In addition, the school has a full time nurse and two primary school guidance counselors.
