Bob Hope Primary School (BHPS) is located on Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan. A unique characteristic of the school is that it is the only primary school (K-2) located on Okinawa. The student population consists of dependents of military personnel and civilians working for the Department of Defense.
The school is a modern, two-story, centrally air-conditioned structure. It is divided into "pods" or small common areas servicing three to four classrooms each. There is also a cafeteria, gymnasium, and a 12,000+ volume media center. There is a large playground and a nature trail that winds through a wooded area behind the school.
BHPS is a DYNAMIC SCHOOL, where teachers are dedicated and work hard to help children achieve their highest academic goals and potential. The curriculum is designed to address DoDEA content standards. There are a PSCD and a Sure Start program in the school. The school provides a normal "stateside" curriculum in addition to many special programs that include: art, music, physical education, and Japanese culture. Gifted education, Literacy Support Services (LSS), and English as a Second Language programs are also available to students in the school.
